One of Brazil’s newest circuits, the Autódromo Velo Città is located approximately 8 km to the north-east of the city of Mogi Guaçu, itself 120 km to the north of Sao Paolo.

At an elevation of around 591 metres above sea level, Velo Città is amongst the higher racing circuits to be found.

The brainchild of local Mitsubishi importer and landowner Edoardo Souza Ramos, plans for the circuit date back to 2007. It took a further three years for construction to start whilst planning assessments and approvals took place.

The circuit was constructed in two phases – the eastern loop was completed in 2010, whilst the second phase western loop was built the following year after environmental approval.

Initially used for testing, the full 3.493 km circuit received its authorisation to stage national motorsport events from the Confederação Brasileira de Automobilismo in October 2012.

The track received ‘homologation’ by the FIA in October 2013, although it has mostly been used by manufacturers and national racing. In 2017, it hosted the Stock Car Brazil series for the first time.

Unique to the circuit are the amusing braking board markers, which show an increasingly concerned chimpanzee image the closer drivers get to the corner.
